Former Deputy Ashanti Regional under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Joseph Yammin has predicted gloomy picture about the economy for Ghanaians considering what happened in the year 2017 under the watch of the current administration.
According to him, it is going to be all doom and gloom this near as far as the country’s economy under New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is concerned.
In an interview with a local reporter to assess the 2017 political year, Joseph Yammin observed things have gone haywire in the first year of the Akufo-Addo government.
“The year has been generally bad as compared to John Mahama’s. Government policies aren’t working as expected. Look at the free SHS program for instance, the challenges keep compounding and the government has been unable to address them”
The one time Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports pointed out that there are serious challenges with accommodation, feeding and others facing the beneficiaries of the programme.
“The One District, One Factory how couldn’t it take off even though the president cut sod for its commencement”, demanding explanation from the government.
“The President stated 51 will be ready by end of 2017 but the trade minister also talks of 170 to take off in the first quarter of 2018. There’s not enough clarity regarding what they want to do”, he complained
“The escalating fuel prices, utility bills, contractors not being paid after a promise to pay them within the government’s first 100 days in office, difficulties paying trainee nurses their allowances and the almighty corruption in the government with the blatant cover ups by the presidency”
According to aspiring NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman, these are among the issues he will rank and assess the government’s performance in her first year.
Joseph Yammin therefore projected that the year 2018 will be tougher considering the current economic situation in the country.
“My new year prayer is for God to give us the strength he gave his son and our Lord Jesus Christ to fast for 40 days without dying and as he gave the Prophet Muhammed to fast for 30 days without dying to enable us live under this clearly incompetent government”, he prayed.
