No propaganda in budget debate - Majority leader cautions minority

Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has asked that the debate on the budget and policy statement should be pragmatic not propaganda.

According to him, Ghanaians need to understand the issues and be enlightened about the various life-changing policies instituted by the government.

Speaking Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained the minority has over the years deceived Ghanaians with their propaganda press conferences after budget presentations.

But with what the Finance Minister delivered in parliament, he can tell that Ghana’s future looks brighter under this government and that the minority should not diffuse the minds of Ghanaians.

"The minority should team to stay off propaganda and speak to the issues and facts presented by the government," he advised.

He added that Ghana is on a good course and this budget of hope will give Ghanaians a better future.

The government will not introduce any new taxes in the 2020 fiscal year, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta noted while reading the 2020 budget.

Instead, Ken Ofori-Atta said the government would restructure the tax system and develop a comprehensive revenue policy and strategy to address the challenges of revenue mobilization.

Presenting the 2020 fiscal year budget to parliament, he explained that this will involve lending the necessary support to the Ghana Revenue Authority to boost revenue collection in order to meet its revenue targets.

"This way, we can raise our domestic contribution to our ambitious transformation agenda, in line with the Ghana Beyond Aid vision,” he said.
