Tamale, July 9, GNA - The Northern Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has embarked on a programme aimed at educating eligible voters in the region to register when the voters' register opens.

Alhaji Abdulai Haruna Friday, Northern Regional Secretary of the Party, led a four-member team to Tolon and Kumbungu constituencies to assess the preparedness of trained party agents to ensure vigilance during the registration exercise.

In a release issued on Monday, Alhaji Friday said it was necessary for party functionaries and activists to ensure that all eligible voters fulfilled their civic responsibilities by registering massively to vote the New Patriotic Party out of power in December.

He appealed to constituency executives to take it upon themselves to convince members to ensure that family members who attained the age of 18 were registered.

He commended members of the 31st December Women's Movement for embarking on an intensive educational programme to ensure a massive turn-out during registration and voting. According to the release, Alhaji Abdulai Silemboma, Regional Organiser of the NDC, called on party agents to eschew violence at registration centres and use the appropriate channels of redress to ensure that the exercise was successful.
