Northern Region NPP retains C.O.P as chairman

Tamale, Oct. 30, GNA - The Northern Region New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday voted to retain Alhaji Abdul Rahaman Salifu (C.O.P) as the party's regional chairman at the party's regional delegates congress held in Tamale.

Alhaji Salifu polled 79 votes to beat other five contestants for the position, which was termed by delegates as "Position of death" due to the enthusiasm the contestants attached to the race. His two closest contestants, Mr Daniel Bugri Nabu obtained 33 votes and Alhaji Mamoud Alhassan, Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) had 24 votes, while the other three contenders could not secure beyond three votes. Mr. Clifford Abdallah Braimah also retained his position as the regional secretary of the party.

He had 108 votes to beat his two challengers, Mr Abdul Kadir Ibrahim and Mr Abukari Saddique Haruna, who had 19 and 18 votes respectively.

Mr Alhassan Yakubu and Binlala Victoria Naako were voted as first vice chairman and second vice chairperson respectively, while Mr. Faisal Gbanjil was chosen as assistant secretary. Hajia Fati Abubakar was chosen as women's Organizer, Mr Owusu Ampadu, treasurer and Mr Shaibu Saani was given the nod as Organizer, while the position of the youth Organizer went to Alhaji Sulemana Yussif.

Mr. Ali Dauda from the Electoral Commission (EC) supervised the election, which was generally calm and peaceful.
