Correspondence from Mumuni Yunus, Northern Region:

Former President John Mahama has questioned President Akufo-Addo about when he plans to resign, citing the depreciation of the Ghana Cedi against the US dollar.

The NDC flagbearer referenced a past statement by then-Candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, where he suggested that if he were in the late President John Evans Atta Mills' position, he would resign due to the cedi trading at GH¢2 to a dollar.

During a rally in Lugni, in the Wulensi constituency of the Northern region on Tuesday, Mr. Mahama asked the President if he would now consider resigning given that the Ghanaian Cedi is trading at nearly GH¢17 to a dollar.

Referring to a video where Akufo-Addo made the comparison between exchange rates during different administrations, Mahama questioned, "Today, one dollar equals 17 cedis, would he resign?"

The NDC flagbearer urged the President to inform the people of Ghana about his resignation plans.

Mr. Mahama also appealed to the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Stanley, who had broken away from the party, to set aside his ambitions and rejoin the NDC.

He emphasised that splitting from the party would only harm Stanley's political career, as the NDC was poised to achieve significant victories in the upcoming Parliamentary and presidential elections.
