Obed Asamoah’s Political Debility And Lies

The Daily Post has been following reactions to its publications as well as others in relation to the opportunistic attempt by Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah to return to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under all kinds of devious guises.

From the reactions so far gathered, it is clear to us that the majority of NDC supporters do not support the return of an obviously spent political force such as Obed Asamoah. And for the minority who craves for his return, they still believe that the leadership should not attach any premium to it. In short, the Likpe politician is free to rejoin the party by going to his constituency to re-register.

The reactions contrasts sharply with the senile thoughts of Obed Asamoah who claimed on radio that he is being sought for and that President J.E.A Mills and former President Rawlings personally appealed to him to return to the NDC. From our understanding of the chemistry of President Mills and Former President Rawlings, they cannot say such a thing unless they have carefully gauged the mood of the people on the ground. We have not cross-checked with the two gentlemen but we can vouch for their integrity as people who are very calculating and measured when it comes to such thorny issues. For us Obed is lying- period.

We also heard Obed Asamoah loud and clear on Peace FM, pontificating on dead and unworkable political theories which excite no one but himself only. He is still living in the glory of the 1970s and early 90s forgetting that the world is now in the 21st century. He claimed that some leading members in the NDC, who are petrified at his return because of his long accumulated years of political experience, are the ones resisting his return to the NDC. This is a monstrous lie.

As a mirror for society, the media or the journalist has the ability to ferret and analyse information from the public for the consumption of the people in authority. In the same way, the media serves as tribune for carrying information from the elite to the society they are supposed to govern. It is this noble duty which has brought to the fore the strong resistance from the grassroots against Obed Asamoah’s attempt to use the NDC as a lamppost to re-launch his dead political career.

The old fox deceives himself he is, Obed Asamoah thinks that people in the NDC do not know the difference between khaki and leather. He thinks highly of himself and for that matter trusts himself as the only political grand master in town. But because he is blinkered by his egocentric tendencies, he has forgotten to pause for a moment and do some serious soul searching. If Obed Asamoah claims to be the political strategist par excellence, we are at a loss as to why he failed miserably to let his moribund Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) be the toast of Ghanaians. The bottom line of the desperate bid to use a decimated political organization such as the DFP to gain some respectability is informed by the financial dire straits. We insist that Obed Asamoah is as broke as a ‘church mouse’. He cannot fool anybody with his archaic and witty tricks.

Without Obed Asamoah, the NDC won the 2008 elections and defeated the man he openly endorsed against the then candidate Mills. The Daily Post is on the side of the discerning majority. If anything to the contrary emerges regarding the fate of Obed Asamoah to rejoin the NDC, we shall not hesitate to put it out even though we abhor and detest double standards, treachery and opportunism. However, for now, our position is that if Obed Asamoah claims to have accumulated enough experience in politics which makes others envy him, then, let him put it to better use by guiding and assisting the DFP to become a serious political party and not a purposeless group of jokers.

The Daily Post remains undaunted by the posture of Obed Asamoah in trying to drag President Mills and Former President Rawlings into his ‘kokofu game’. Before we temporarily sheath our daggers on this issue, we dare ask Obed Asamoah, whether he has now regretted leaving the NDC? The question is informed by a loquacious interview he granted the Chronicle in which he stated that “I Don’t Regret Leaving NDC”. In case he has forgotten, we may grant him the benefit of the doubt, because there is the likelihood that his with age catching up with him, he could be suffering from atrophy.
