Obuasi, Jan 23, GNA - The Chairman of the Communication Department of the Obuasi constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it was unfortunate for Dr Obed Asamoah, the former NDC Chairman, to cite violence and other uncomplimentary reasons for his resignation from the party.
Mr Paul Raymond Kwofie, who was speaking to newsmen, said, "Obed knew NDC was violent and yet he stayed on and enjoyed ministerial positions till he lost his national chairmanship position". Mr Kwofie said the notion that the NDC was carved out of the PNDC was wrong since there were people in the other parties who served the country under the PNDC.
He said acts of disturbances were common in all the political parties and that it was unfortunate that what happened at Koforidua was being dramatized by sections of the public.
"The NPP primaries at Kumasi-Oforikrom saw people running for their dear lives as party members took guns and other offensive weapons and as I talk now there are factions in the Obuasi NPP who have vicious confrontations either verbally or physically", he said. Mr Kwofie said the doors of the party were still opened and that those who have resigned should "take what happened at Koforidua as one of those things in political parties".
He urged party members to stand more united than before and appealed to the foot soldiers to be ready to go from house-to-house and educate the people on the difficulties the NPP administration had imposed on to the country.
Mr Kwofie appealed to party members to defend the good name and works of the party and disabuse the minds of the people that the NDC was a violent party.
