Obuasi Elections: Obuasi MCE’s Pledges on Works Crosschecked.

The Honourable Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi after his confirmation in July 2013 made several developmental promises that will go a long way to make Obuasi one of the best Municipalities in the Ashanti Region and Ghana as a whole.

Obuasitoday.com as a mouthpiece of the people has done a fact-check on promises made by the Honourable Municipal Chief Executive after he took over the mantle from the current Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. John Alexander Kobina Ackon in July 2013.

Works

Pledge: Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi on his day of confirmation promised in his acceptance speech to make sure Obuasi Municipality gets a new lorry terminal by the close of his term of office.

Verdict: The Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and the Adansihene, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II inaugurated the over GHC 1 million Hossey Park bus terminal, November last year.

Pledge: The Honourable Municipal Chief Executive two years ago promised to relocate the Obuasi Boete Timber market to Domeabra which will be called the Domeabra wood village.

Verdict: The Obuasi Boete Timber market is still located at its old site which is not far from the main Boete bus stop.

Pledge: Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi promised to relocate all artisans to a proposed Light Industrial Area by close of his term.

Verdict: All the artisans are currently at their temporal places hoping for the Light Industrial Area to be set up.

Pledge: The construction of the GHC 219,000 Obuasi High Court was another promise made by the Municipal Chief Executive.

Verdict: The GHC 219,000 High Court was inaugurated in August this year.

Pledge: Last year, Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi assured residents to construct the deplorable Mactina-Government Hill road.

Verdict: Exactly a year down the lane, the road has still not been constructed and give gives motorists and residents a hard time.

Pledge: A facelift of the Obuasi Divisional Police Headquarters was proposed by the MCE last year. He promised to build a new Divisional Headquarters at Gausu Extension.

Verdict: The site has been secured with the Architectural drawings boldly placed on the land but real construction work is yet to begin.

Pledge: MCE’s Bungalow, the official residence for the Municipal Chief Executive has been under construction for the past 8 years! The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has already spent over GHC189, 095.16 on the building.

Honourable Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi promised to complete the bungalow by close of the second quarter of this year.

Verdict: The official residence of the MCE has still not been completed, as at the time of this report.

Pledge: In a bid to decongest the Obuasi main Central Market, the MCE a promise to build a satellite market at Kunka (Dunkwa Junction).

Verdict: The Market with 120 shops and 80 sheds is almost complete.

The main objective for this venture is to make electorates hold Politicians accountable for all promises they make after their 4 years in office. This helps promote issue based campaigning and analysis
