A group calling itself opinion leaders of the Akyem Oda and Asene- Manso/Akroso National Democratic Congress (NDC) have appealed to the President to investigate happenings in the Birim Central Municipality.

At a press conference at Akyem Oda on Sunday, the group said under the 1992 constitution, it is only the President who has the mandate to nominate a Metropolitan/Municipal/District Chief Executive (MMDCE), but this appears not to be so within the Birim Central Municipality.

“In the case of the Birim Central Municipality some people are trying to usurp the powers of the President,” Mr Abednego Ohene, spokesperson for the group.

He alleged that investigations has proved that a leading member of the NDC in Accra and some constituencies and Eastern Regional executives are manipulating to have one Mr Kwabena Asare-Nkansah appointed as the MCE without passing through the normal procedure.

He alleged that efforts were being made by those people to have Mr Asare-Nkansah confirmed as the MCE on Thursday September 11 at Akyem Oda.

Mr Ohene has therefore appealed to the President to cause investigations into the matter for justice to prevail in the Municipality.
