Accra, Sept. 5, GNA - The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Tuesday, October 24, this year as the date for the Offinso South Constituency by-elections following the death of Mr Kwabena Sarfo, Member of Parliament for the area on August 11, this year. A statement issued on Tuesday in Accra and signed by Mr Kwadwo Sarfo-Kantanka, Deputy Chairman of EC said the Clerk of Parliament informed the EC that a vacancy has occurred in the legislature following the death of Mr Sarfo.
In accordance with Article 112 of the 1992 Constitution, as amended by section (3) of Act 527, bye election has to be held to fill the vacancy in the House. The statement said, "The poll shall be taken at all polling stations within the constituency between 0700 and 1700 hours.
"Notice is hereby given that nomination of candidates shall take place at the office of the Returning Officer, Offinso South Constituency located within the EC District Office from Monday October 2 to Tuesday October 3 between the hours of 0900 and 1200; and 1400 and 1700." The statement said every nomination must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters respectively and supported by 18 other registered voters from the Constituency and with the consent of the prospective candidate.
Nomination papers are to be delivered to the Returning Officer with the required deposit of 500,000 cedis in bank draft and two clear and recent passport photograph in colour with red background. 05 Sept. 06
