Constituents in the Oforikrom electoral area in the Ashanti region have declared full support for the ruling National Democratic Congress Parliamentary candidate and deputy Chief of Staff, Jonny Osei Kofi.

The constituents say it’s always good to ‘test the waters’ and they are ready to go all out for the Deputy Chief of staff.

Speaking to Kessbenfm.com, Mr Eric Baffour, a teacher and resident in Ayeduase, one of the electoral areas in Oforikrom said.

“We have carried water for a long time; at this point it’s only fair that we try wine, just so we can tell which one is weightier.”

He added, “We are tired of the single way of doing things…we want to travel the road not taken”

Madam Ernestina Kodua, a house wife and a resident of Kentinkrono said after several years of retaining the NPP in parliament they have seen no improvement, hence her decision to change hands

“There’s a perception here in Ashanti region that we vote ‘anything’ in NPP colours, but this year the story has changed. Oforikrom is underdeveloped after so many years of retaining the NPP parliamentary candidates – The roads in our communities especially are nothing to write home about. They have done virtually nothing – I’ll change hands!”

Mr. Anderson, a taxi driver who plies the Ayigya Zongo road said he will vote based on the nature of his roads.

“Since 1992, we have kept the NPP in parliament, but look at our roads.. – i simply don’t believe it! so this year I’ll try the NDC candidate – maybe he can do us some good”

History would be made if Mr. Osei Kofi is elected to represent the people of Oforikrom on the ticket of the NDC in parliament.

Background of candidate

Mr Jonny Osei Kofi served as a government appointee in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in 2013.

A former lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mr Osei was appointed a member of the KMA’s Sub-committee on Development Planning.

A little over a year into his work at the assembly, he caught the President’s eye and was appointed Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing in June 2014.

Although the name Jonny Osei Kofi is not a household name in political circles, especially in Ghana politics, in NDC circles in the Ashanti Region he was part of the formative years of the NDC.

Before the formation of the NDC he was also associated with the Committee for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR).

He also taught at St Louis Senior High School for 24 years.

He has also been working for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Kumasi and also the Catholic Church in the Ashanti Region because his interest in working for communities is very high.

Mr Osei is the Founder of the NGO that ensured the setting up of the Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation at KNUST to fight for the welfare of people with disability.
