Andrew Okaikoi, an independent parliamentary candidate for the Okaikoi North constituency, has indicated that he is not perturbed by the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) directive for independent candidates to withdraw their candidature.

Mr. Okaikoi is contesting the December general elections as an independent candidate after he lost the bid to contest the Okaikoi North constituency seat on the ticket of the ruling party.

The party at a press conference on Wednesday indicated it intends to present a united front in the 2012 elections and therefore expects those who have filed as independent candidates to withdraw their candidature in seven days or forfeit their membership of the party.

But Mr. Okaikoi who is amongst several others contesting as independent candidates in an interview with citi fm in Accra has stated that although he is contesting on an independent ticket, he will forever remain an NDC member.

He said: “I believe that I had the mandate and it has been stolen from me and nobody communicates with me and so far as I am concerned, I will forever be NDC.”
