Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, Kofi Benteh Afful, has described the NPP Minority in Parliament as the “One Corner Minority,” highlighting the party’s dwindling numbers in the House.
'The mighty minority can't be intimidated' - Afenyo-Markin to government
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the 2026 budget debate on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, he said, “Before I became a parliamentarian, I heard that this House had two sides, your left-hand side and your right-hand side. But ever since I came here, I’ve seen a median. However, what I have seen are four ‘connects,’ one of which is occupied by the NPP, which was in the previous government.”
Afful took a swipe at the Minority for focusing on the distinction between economic growth and development.
“Today, we are presenting a budget that is not only seeking to grow the economy but to develop it. Even though we have stepped up to grow the economy by 4.8%, Mr. Speaker, in this 4.8%, 800,000 jobs are going to be created to solve some of the problems they left behind,” he said.
His comments follow the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s two-thirds majority in Parliament.
The NDC currently holds 184 out of 275 seats, along with four independent MPs, further strengthening its control of the legislative process. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds 86 seats.
