Only 122 transfer votes to Akwatia and Kade Constituencies

Kade, Nov. 23, GNA - Only 122 voters have transferred their votes to the Akwatia and Kade Constituencies, Mr Kwaku Owusu Addo, Kwaebibirem District Electoral Officer has said.

Mr Addo, who was speaking at a District Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting at Kade at the weekend, said only 83 persons had applied to transfer their votes to the Akwatia Constituency and 39 to the Kade Constituency and these requests had been referred to Accra for the appropriate action.

He said there had not been any mass transfer of voters and asked political parties contesting Election 2004 in the District not to feed on rumours but to verify any information with his office.

"You are free to check on any information with the District Electoral Office, whose doors are widely open, otherwise you will not be doing justice to yourselves", Mr Addo told the party representatives. The Electoral Officer said to ensure free, fair and transparent elections every candidate should have very dependable agents at every polling station.

It would, therefore, require the Presidential candidate having one agent in addition to an agent representing a candidate for the Parliamentary seat, he said.

Mr Addo called on the parties and candidates to send names of their polling agents to the District Electoral Office latest by November 25, saying a briefing session would be organized for the agents to enable them to live up to expectation on the polling day.

The Electoral Officer warned against the destruction of EC's posters and those of candidates, saying those caught in the act would face the full rigours of the law.

Mr Addo said at designated centres where election results would be collated, only two agents for each candidate in addition to the contestants would be allowed entry.

He said he was satisfied so far with the peaceful campaigning in the District's two constituencies.
