Kumasi, Feb 08, GNA - Opanin Kwame Afreh Jnr, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Reform Party (NRP) on Wednesday announced his resignation from the party and declared his intention to join the new party in the offing, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).

He accused the leadership of the NRP in a statement of flirting with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) even though conditions that necessitated the breakaway still existed in the NDC.

He said some of the national executive members of the NRP were engaged in secret meetings with the NDC, a situation that he pointed out was unacceptable.

Opanin Afreh, a former regional organizer of the EGLE Club and a former staunch member of the NDC, commended Dr Obed Yao Asamoah for his bold decision to form a new political party.

He said the formation of the new party would institutionalise democracy in the country and asked Dr Asamoah to ensure the full involvement and participation of the grassroots in the building of the new party devoid of intimidation.

Opanin Afreh called on supporters of the NRP and all democrats to join forces with the new party to champion the cause of democracy in Ghana.
