Mpraeso (E/R), Aug. 21, GNA - Ten thousand one hundred and sixty three eligible voters were registered by the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Kwahu South District at the end of the limited registration exercise as against an estimated figure of 6,000. The District Electoral Officer, Mr Appiah Agyemang, disclosed this in an interview with the GNA at Mpraeso. He said the unexpected high turn out resulted in shortage of materials such as registration forms and photographic material, which also caused delays at some of the centres.

Mr Agyemang said even though there were delays at some registration centres he was confident that all eligible voters were successfully registered, since at the end of the exercise there were no queues at most of the centres. He said arrangements had been put in place for those who were not able to have their pictures taken at the end of the exercise, to come at a later date to take them and collect their identification cards. On security, Mr Agyemang said the Commission was collaborating with the District Security Committee to ensure incident free general elections.

He appealed to citizens in the district to have confidence in the EC to ensure peaceful and credible elections at all the polling stations. The District Electoral Officer also advised eligible voters to cross check their names during the exhibition of the voters register at the polling centres. 21 Aug. 08
