Owusu-Ankomah: Let’s put Ghana first

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, has urged Ghanaians Politicians and leaders at all strata, to put Ghana first in all they do.

The Sekondi Legislator told Parliament on Wednesday that Ghanaian Politicians must endeavour to leave behind a better country for posterity.

‘In sum Mr Speaker, we live our life not for today but for the future. Every day in our life should be seen as an investment into the future’, the former Education Minister said while contributing to a statement in commemoration of the 49th death anniversary of Dr J.B. Danquah.

Dr Danquah, a founder-member of the pre-independent United Gold Coast Convention (U.G.C.C) died on February 4, 1965 while in detention at the Nsawam medium security prison. He had been detained and imprisoned without trial under the Preventive Detention Act.

Extolling the virtues of Dr Danquah as a man who damned the consequences and stood for his convictions, Papa Owusu-Ankomah said: ‘…We should learn that as we build a nation, we don’t build a nation for today and whatever we do, even if during our lifetime people may not appreciate it, later, when we are gone, in terms of nation building, people will take a leaf from the way we live our life and the believes we professed’.

He said: ‘…Each and every one of us who has the benefit to play a leadership role - whether in our families, in our workplaces or in our nations - let us ask ourselves, ‘to what extent are we living our life to benefit the future?

‘Let us always put our nation first’, he urged.
