Kodie (Ash), Aug 1, GNA- The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday elected Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asamoah as its parliamentary candidate for the newly created Kwabre West constituency at the party's primaries at Kodie. Mr Owusu-Ansah, who until recently the Judicial Secretary, polled 23 out of the 67 ballots cast at a keenly contested elections conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC). He beat four other contestants, Mr Kofi Obiri Yeboah, a businessman, who had 20 votes, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, 18 votes while Mr Kofi Karikari Appau, got four with Madam Millicent Boateng obtaining two votes.
Addressing the delegates after the elections, Mr Owusu-Ansah said his major assignment when voted into power would be to ensure that the constituency was upgraded to a district level. He said he needed the unflinching support of all to win the seat and called on the losers to mobilise their supporters to rally behind him so that together they would campaign for the party to have an overwhelming victory in the elections. He pledged 20 million cedis towards the new party office being constructed at the constituency headquarters at Kodie.
The defeated candidates on their part pledged their absolute support for him while Mr Karikari Appau promised 20 million cedis for the party office, a pick-up and cash of 60 million cedis to support his campaign. Madam Boateng pledged 100 plastic chairs for the office after its completion while Odeneho Appiah and Mr Obiri Yeboah pledged two doors each for the office. Mr Frederick Fredua Antoh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, said the party needed the support of all to win the December elections.
