President John Mahama has sworn in his second batch of his ministers who were vetted last week by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

The Ministers sworn-into office include embattled Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur, whose nomination was strongly rejected by the concerned clergy and several institutions due to her stance on homosexuality.

Nana Oye Lithur stated at the vetting that she would not promote homosexuality but protect the rights of all Ghanaians including gays. However, many have interpreted her position on homosexuality as soft and likely to use her office to lobby President Mahama to change Ghana’s position on homosexuality.

However, despite stiff opposition by the clergy and several institutions against Nana Oye Lithur’s nomination, she was approved by Parliament and has been sworn into office by President Mahama.

Others sworn in include; Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Omane Boamah, Minister for Communication, Professor Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, Minister for Education and Dr. Oteng Agyei , Minister for Environment, Science Technology and Innovation.
