A Legal Practitioner David Annan has condemned the actions of the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee as unconstitutional and urged members of the committee not to give him the avenue to manipulate them.

According to Lawyer David Annan, Mrs. Bttey Mould Iddrisu raised some concerns about insults on her personality as a law practitioner when she was not in Ghana at that time. The chairman of the committee Hon. Kan Dapaah on behalf of the members of the committee refused to render an apology to Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu.

Mr. David Annan stated that “you have a chairman who takes decision on behalf of committee members without consulting them even when some of the members wanted to apologize to the former Attorney General”.

The legal practitioner was not happy with the decision of the chairman not to apologize to the Mrs. Betty Mould said that “the Public Accounts Committee is not an avenue for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to damage the image of people who appear before it. They ask questions that are blatant, blazing and share blackmail to witnesses who appear before them.

He quoted article 103 of the constitution which recognizes PAC as a parliamentary standing committee tasked to hold public officials accountable adding that “whatever decision they take is not final”.

Lawyer David Annan cautioned the committee to desist from taking the people of Ghana for granted because “they think they are privileged hence whatever they say during their sittings cannot be used against them”.**
