The People’s National Convention (PNC) has elected Bernard Anbataayela Mornah as the presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

The event took place on September 7, 2024, at the UDS Guest House and was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC). Mr. Mornah emerged triumphant over the party’s 2020 nominee, David Apasera. Mr Mornah’s got 1,138 votes against Mr. Apasera’s 216.

The Greater Accra election was briefly delayed when 490 delegates refused to vote, demanding payment of transportation and allowances. The shout “no money, no vote” threatened to disrupt the proceedings until party officials intervened.

Due to the delegates’ protest and the Electoral Commission (EC) officials’ late arrival, the voting started late and continued into the evening, but it was eventually finished without any more problems.

During his acceptance speech, Mr. Mornah urged Ghanaians, especially the younger generation, to challenge the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s long-standing dominance. “Our plight is the same, and our fight must be the same,” he remarked.

Mr. Mornah asked his supporters to focus on the upcoming campaign rather than overindulging in their jubilation. “Let us celebrate tonight in modesty and get to work tomorrow. Ghana needs a new leader in Bernard Mornah. I offer a new direction for all Ghanaians,” he urged.
