Veteran politician and flagbearer of the People’s National Congress (PNC) has revealed to the people of Ghana that one major problem he is bent on tackling when given the nod on November 7 is the waste challenge submerging the nation particularly Accra and other cities.

He made the submissions as part of PNC’s manifestoes promises in a Presidential Debate held by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) towards election 2016 on Tuesday 21st June 21, 2016.

The venue which was the Accra International Conference center saw a lot of technocrats from various spheres of endeavor.

Over the years, the problem of filth is one huge task that successive governments have failed to address especially in the cities. Citizens dump refuse indiscriminately and anytime it rained these areas are engulfed in filth.

And explaining how this menace can be solved, the flagbearer reiterated that his government will create a Municipal Waste Generation Profile (MWGP) that would help build energy plant to take care of the excessive waste in our communities.

This approach he said would bring development in job creation since the plants will provide energy to be delivered at an affordable price.

Talking about Oil and Gas, Dr. Edward Mahama mentioned clearly that he would put in place institutional measures to manage and strengthen a committee to build the capacity of it, workers.

Another step is that additional transparency agency would be created for the execution of contracts and procurement for the sector.

And in order to ensure a fiscal sustainability, his government will quickly draft a Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) that will minimize accruing of debts and indiscriminate borrowing.
