PNC postpones campaign and manifesto launch indefinitely

The Peoples National Convention (PNC) on Thursday postponed its manifesto and campaign launch originally slated for October 6th at Gwollu in the Upper West Region indefinitely.

Mr. Bernard Mornah, PNC General Secretary, at a press conference in Accra attributed the postponement to the passage of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 78 which came into force on October 3rd which created additional 45 constituencies for Election 2012.

“The leader, flag bearer, Mr. Hassan Ayariga and national executive regret to announce the postponement of its national campaign and manifesto launch scheduled for this Saturday 6th October 2012, at Gwollu in the Upper West Region.

Mr. Mornah said the creation of new 45 constituencies, has created an operational challenge to the party as “it will not be fair for the Flag bearer to introduce all other parliamentary aspirants on one big platform without those from the new constituencies.

Directive is hereby given to all Regional Chairmen of the Party to open nominations in all constituencies from October 4th and conclude the primaries on or before October 10, 2012,” he stated.

The PNC General Secretary flanked by the Flag bearer, Mr. Ayariga and Mr. Emmanuel Wilson, National Organizer, also cited the un-motorable nature of the Gwollu roads as another reason for the postponement of the event.

“In the meantime, we implore Government that the people of Gwollu and Upper West deserve better and quality roads hence the bad state of these roads should be fixed immediately,” he said.

He therefore chastised government for persistently neglecting to fix these roads and exposing residents to undue danger anytime it rains.

He noted that in view of this development, Mr. Ayariga, would proceed with his nation-wide tours by heading towards the Western and Central Regions.

On the issue of running-mate, Mr. Mornah explained that in accordance with the PNC Constitution, the Flag bearer will submit names of potential candidates to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for vetting and approval and after the process, the candidate would be outdoored.

“The PNC takes this moment to reassure the people of Ghana of our commitment to peace in this election and after.

We know we have a message of hope for the people. We know that the Ghanaian will vote for the PNC because we have always shown that we have the ideas that address their concerns in Education, Health, Agriculture, Industry, Employment, Infrastructure and good and past record,” he said.
