Tamale, June 28, GNA - Mr. Abdulai Zakaria Abdul-Razak, Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the PNC, has described the merger of the PNC and Convention People's Party (CPP) as unacceptable.

A statement to the media said the youths have been left in the dark without consultation leading to the merger of the two parties in the regi on. "Indeed, as youth of the PNC in the Northern Region, we are not in principle against unity talks or unity amongst members of the Nkrumahist family," they said, adding that, their undiluted support and fullest cooperation would be given to a transparently consultative process instea d of few groups of people taking decisions for the party. The statement was issued and signed in Tamale on Monday and copied t o the Regional Secretariat of the PNC/CPP, National Youth Organizers and to

media houses. "The Northern Region PNC Youth wish to unequivocally state and expre ss our displeasure about recent media reportage and public debate ahead of 2 012 elections".

The statement said a lot of secret, but dangerous meetings, were hel d without the PNC youth participation, with the objective of imposing a presidential candidate for the 2012 elections, should unity see the light of day in 2011. The youth alleged that an amount of GH¢5,000 was given out to some

individuals by a personality in the CPP to champion his selfish political

ambitions.

They therefore cautioned such individuals to desist from undermining

and sabotaging any fruitful and prospective unity talks yet to come. The statement added that, the PNC national leadership has not given its blessings to any unity talks committee as of now, saying, any process tha t would see the unity of the two parties to be independent, transparent and

consultative, such that unity would be achieved ahead of 2012 elections i s welcomed. It added that Ghanaians have grown weary of the NDC/NPP style of governance and that the unity of the parties could ensure victory. 28 June 10
