The National Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond has called upon divisional Chiefs in the Akatsi South Constituency of the Volta Region to give the PPP a chance in the Akatsi South Constituency by-election. It would be recalled that the Akatsi South constituency became vacant following the election of Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho as Speaker of Parliament.
Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond made this demand when he led a delegation of party bigwigs to call on six divisional Chiefs at Akatsi Zongo, Agbalehorme, Tatorme, Mornanu, Dzrakate and Anydzime.
The visit was to formally introduce the candidate, Mr Anthony Tsikata, a professional teacher to the Chiefs and to solicit for their support for victory in the by-election which is scheduled for Tuesday, 5th February 2013.
The PPP Chairman admitted that even though the Volta Region is generally perceived to be the “world bank” of the NDC, the by-election should be a test for the constituents to demonstrate that they always voted for the NDC in the past, because they did not have an alternative. He entreated the Chiefs to give the PPP aspirant the opportunity to advocate and ensure the implementation of the Four-pillars and Ten-point agenda of transformation in by voting massively for Mr Anthony Tsikata, the PPP Parliamentary aspirant for Akatsi South Constituency.
‘‘If Mr Tsikata goes to Parliament to represent you, he would set in motion the abundance of jobs for the unemployed youth, and improve the water, education and healthcare conditions in the constituency by offering a competent and responsible leadership’’, she said.
He further indicated that although the NDC was number one on the ballot at the December election, the PPP Parliament candidate, Anthony Tsikata has contentedly taken over that position after the Akatsi district electoral Commission undertook a balloting exercise for all the four parliamentary candidates. He encouraged the chiefs and their elders to vote number one, just as most of their subjects did for Hon Doe Adjaho to win. “The position has not changed”, he noted.
On their part, Togbui Haxormene, Togbui Ahortor, Togbui Aho IV, Togbui Legetenu, Togbui Agbley III and the Zongo Chief, assured the PPP National Chairman and his team of their support, adding that, because Chiefs are debarred from engaging in partisan politics, they will send the message to their subjects and urge them to tryout the PPP.
They narrated the reforms Dr Nduom initiated as Minister of Public Sector Reforms, Energy, Economic Planning and Regional integration which has inestimably impacted the progress of this country. They described the PPP as “bijou” and further recognized the role Dr Nduom has played over the years to provide jobs for the youth and requested for the opening of First National Branch at Akatsi.
The National Chairman accompanied by the Deputy National Secretary, Mr Paa Kow Ackon and the Chairman of the PPP Parliamentary group, Mr Prince Okyere as well as Regional and Constituency executives later interacted with polling stations agents at different locations.
