PPP Promises To Build… Tetteh-Quarshie Museum

The wife of the presidential candidate of the PPP Mrs. Yvonne Nduom has hinted of the preparedness of the party to build a museum in honour of Tetteh Quarshie at Mampong in the Eastern Region.

The museum, she disclosed, would contain artifacts of the late Tetteh Quarshie who hails from the town; it would also contain a statue of him which would be sited at the entrance to his 0.38-hectare cocoa farm.

“We would also help in upgrading your herbal research centre [Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine] and place it on the world map to attract investors and tourists into this town….,” she told the party’s constituency executives at Mampong.

Tetteh Quarshie who hails from the town brought the cocoa bean from Fernando Po in modern Equatorial Guinea and started cultivating the bean which has become the live wire of the country.

Despite this contribution, Mrs. Nduom was of the opinion that much has not been done in his honour and hoped the museum to be sited in the town would help place the town on the global tourist map.

“With the influx of tourists would come the investments that would create jobs for the unemployed in this town…please don’t waste your votes like you did on five different occasions…,” she appealed.

She also disclosed that the party would collapse the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), thus making the exit point of primary education to be at the Senior High School level.

This, she said, distinguishes the party’s education policy from that of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which only seeks to make Senior High School free.

“We would ensure that the exit point for our primary education would be at the Senior High School level and it would be free and compulsory from Kindergarten to SHS.”

She stated that teacher motivation would be key to the PPP which will place the teacher first in its education policy.

Mrs. Nduom also called on the party’s polling station executives to be loyal to the PPP and work hard to win votes for their parliamentary candidate, Mr. Kwaku Fredua Agyeman, and her husband whom she said had the competence to lead the country out of poverty.

Dr. Nduom on his part charged the constituency executives to explain the party’s agenda for change to voters and encouraged them to vote for the PPP which is “the only credible alternative to the NDC and the NPP.”
