PPP attends Liberal Democrats confab

Progressive People’s Party (PPP) yesterday left Accra for the United Kingdom (UK) to attend the pre-election conference of Liberal Democrats in Liverpool.

The three-day conference, which is slated for Friday, March 13-15, 2015, will discuss among other issues including how to acquire key skills in campaigning through masterclasses; gaining practical experience through shadowing constituency teams and sharing best practice on how to implement election campaign tools with other liberal parties. The PPP will be represented by its National Secretary, Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, his deputy who also doubles as the Director for Elections, Paa Kow Ackon, and the party’s National Women’s Organiser, Berlinda Bulley.

In a press release issued and copied to Today yesterday the national scribe of the PPP was hopeful that the party would benefit from the best practices in political organisation.

He indicated that they would return after the conference to implement the ideas to increase their presence and electoral fortunes in Ghana.

Mr. Asamoah-Siaw in the statement hinted that the PPP was poised to showcase the best alternative political party in Ghana to the international community and that the party has the best practical policies and programmes that can benefit the good people of this country.

The statement concluded that the PPP in UK will also use the opportunity to interact with its overseas members and the Diaspora to brief them on activities back home in Ghana.

The PPP is a member of The Africa Liberal Network (ALN). The ALN was launched in June 2003, as an alliance of African Liberal Democratic Political Parties. The ALN is also an associated organisation of Liberal International, the political family that liberal democratic parties belong to.

The Liberal International was founded in 1947. It has become the pre-eminent network for promoting liberalism, strengthening liberal parties and for the promotion of liberal democracy around the world. There are a number of common principles which unite all liberal parties from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe; human rights, free and fair elections and multiparty-democracy, social justice, tolerance, social market economy, free trade, environmental sustainability and a strong sense of international solidarity.

The PPP first attended the ALN General Assembly Meeting held in Marrakech, Morocco between 27th and 30th November, 2014.

And at the Moroccan conference, the ALN adopted the twelve point Marrakech Declarations on Human Rights.

The conference adopted the PPP’s policy on education as part of the declarations. It was stated in paragraph four that “Understanding that education is the route to raising awareness of civil and human rights, and to developing the skills needed for employment, developing the skills and opportunities of the next generation. We will work towards the universal compulsory introduction of free primary and secondary education for every girl and boy in Africa.”
