The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called for Special Prosecutor Kissi Adjebeng to appear before the House over allegations of gross abuse of power.

His comment follows the arrest and detention of private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu on Wednesday, December 4, 2025, by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which accused him of obstructing the work of one of its officers.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Dafeamekpor

accused the Special Prosecutor of 'weaponising the powers of his office against citizens.'

Martin Kpebu recounts reason for his detention by OSP

He explained that “The Office of the Special Prosecutor has abused his powers in this matter, and I will not hesitate to say that this House, we created the office and if he continues to abuse its powers, then we may have to abrogate it.

You had no business inviting Kpebu - Prof Mike Oquaye slams OSP

“Let me place this matter on record that this House shall be inviting him (the OSP) to come and brief the House on the circumstances under which he would detain a citizen under such flimsy, whimsical circumstances. It is untenable, and yesterday his conduct was frowned upon by the entire nation.”

Kpebu, a critic of the OSP’s handling of high-profile investigations, including the probe into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, was arrested on December 3, 2025, after an altercation with an OSP officer.

He was held at an undisclosed location before being granted bail with one surety in the form of landed property and released hours later.

The arrest and detention have drawn widespread condemnation from the public.
