Parliamentary candidate speaks on democracy

Ho, Oct. 24 GNA - Mr Michael Kosi Dedey, Ho-Central Constituency Parliamentary Candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP) at the weekend said the country's fledgling democracy risked being ruined, if politics were limited only to the rich and elite in the society. "Politics of the highest bidder and affluent would endanger the gains being made in the democratisation process," he stressed.

Mr Dedey, who was addressing supporters to officially launch the Party's campaign in the Ho-Central Constituency in Ho, warned the electorate to be wary of such monetary and material favours from politicians, describing the practice as being equal to being bought. He charged the electorate rather to be more discerning, based on the candidate's vision, capabilities and messages, especially on topical issues affecting the general welfare of the populace.

Mr Dedey appealed to politicians, particularly Parliamentary candidates to be truthful to the voting public and refrain from making promises that could not be fulfilled.

Mr Dedey pledged to champion the development agenda of the Constituency mainly in improving the poor road network and addressing the falling standards of education in the area, when elected.

Mr Zilas Dikro, Campaign Manager of the Constituency, appealed to peace-seeking Ghanaians to vote for the CPP in December, as it was the only Party that upheld the collective aspirations and the developmental fortunes of the country.

Mr John Nedjo, Volta Regional Education Officer of the CPP, entreated the public to quiz politicians on topical issues that were plaguing the country and to demand the way forward from them any time they came seeking for votes.

"How long can we be blind and continue with a system of whom you know and how much one can pay, to enable one to survive?" He asked.
