The Parliamentary Committee on subsidiary legislation is challenging MPs kicking against the ban on commercial motor bike operations (Okada), to go to court.
Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo was the first MP to oppose the enforcement of the ban after Parliament passed the Road Traffic Regulation.
Other legislators such as the MP for Shai Osu-Doku David Tetteh Assuming have thrown their weight behind the regional minister.
Mr. Assuming in an interview with XYZ News said the ban must be suspended for a while.
“I think that we can do a lot more education and consultations on this issue.
“Majority of our youth are engaged in this practice and even though we are saying it is illegal that is where they are earning their daily bread and we need to find a way of addressing their concerns”.
But Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on subsidiary legislation Osei Kwame Prempeh is questioning why the MPs did not raise their concerns in Parliament.
He said those who have issues with the law should go to court because the law will be enforced.**
