Koforidua, Dec. 10, GNA- The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Julius Debrah, has called for sacrifice and hard work from the members of the party if their hope of winning the 2008 elections was to materialize. He was speaking at the first Regional Executive Committee meeting of the party since the last regional conference of the party this year at Koforidua to strategies on how to host a successful national congress in the region which is scheduled for December 21 to 23.
Mr Debrah assured the members of the party that after the national congress of the party, the Regional Executive would be visiting the constituencies to plan with the executives on the growth of the party. The Regional Organizer of the party, Mr Tawiah Boateng, said the Regional Executive was negotiating with the National Executive to allow two observers from each constituency in the region to attend the congress.
The meeting adopted two motions to be tabled at the national congress for the amendment of some portions of the party constitution to allow all the functional constituency executives of the party to vote at national congress of the party. It was argued that, such a policy would strengthen democracy in the party and help reduce the possibility of some contestants for positions in the party to illegally influence the delegates materially or financially.
The meeting also adopted another motion for the establishment of Regional Council of Elders out of which some of them would be selected to join members of the National Council of Elders of the party. The advocates of the idea argued that, such a structure could serve as an advisory body to the regional executives to help them resolve intra-party conflicts.
