Former President John Dramani Mahama and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has questioned the credibility of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent promise to create jobs for the youth in the country.

Addressing a crowd in Kwamikrom in the Biakoye constituency during his Oti Regional tour, Mahama referenced the ongoing challenges faced by former trainees of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), who are owed several months of unpaid allowances, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.

John Mahama pointed out that many NABCO beneficiaries have been awaiting their promised allowances for months, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) previously committed to securing jobs for the trainees after their programme ended.

He argued that before Dr. Bawumia could be trusted to fulfil new promises on youth employment, he should prioritise resolving NABCO’s outstanding financial obligations.

“The governing NPP promised to provide jobs for the NABCO trainees after completion. It has been over three years, and that has not happened. The allowances they also promised them during the training have not been paid.

“It is really sad because all attempts by the trainees to have their concerns addressed have been unsuccessful. If indeed Dr. Bawumia is committed to providing jobs for the youth, he should first address their concerns," he stated.

His remarks follow Bawumia’s recent address at the Youth Connect programme at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, where he underscored the youth’s importance in his vision for Ghana.

Outlining his vision for job creation, Bawumia disclosed plans for implementing business-friendly policies aimed at creating up to four million jobs, framing it as part of his commitment to transforming the economy and addressing youth unemployment.
