Sisipe (NR), Nov. 21, GNA- Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Member of Parliament (MP) for Salaga has indicated that peace in the December elections, both in his constituency and the country as a whole was more important than individual candidates using dubious ways, including violence to win elections.
He explained that all the Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates were seeking the mandate of the electorate in order to rule them but none of the candidates would be happy to see that their fellows died due to electoral violence because of them.
Alhaji Boniface said this when he addressed party supporters at Sisipe, a community in the Salaga constituency as part of his campaign to retain the Salaga seat during the December 7, polls. "We should all know that Nana Addo Dankwa Akofu-Addo would never wish any NDC member dead or Prof. Evans Atta Mills would wish NPP members dead. Whoever wins the election would be a victory for Ghana but not a victory for the victor since all Ghanaians would call the winner "Our President or our MP". That is why we should not allow people to instigate us to resort to violence and mayhem in December 7," he stressed.
Alhaji Boniface made reference to propaganda going on in the Salaga constituency, which had the tendency of dividing the people to create unnecessary hatred and may result in violence on voting day and called for those behind it to desist from it.
Alhaji Boniface said there was a group calling itself "Friends of Nana Akufu-Addo" led by the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Salaga Alhaji Bismarck Dari working against him and the NPP in Salaga. He appealed to the electorate not to believe whatever the group was saying against the NPP saying, "No friends of Nana Akufu-Addo would be working against the NPP and its candidate."
He used the occasion to outline his achievements for the constituency since he came to power in 2000 as an Independent candidate and again in 2004 on the ticket of the NPP to include infrastructure development.
He said he built an Information Communication Technology (ICT) training centre for the community and provided some infrastructure assistance to the Salaga and T.I Ahmadiya High schools. He said he also paid school fees for about 700 needy students to go
through their secondary and tertiary institutions as well as extending electricity to various communities in the constituency. Alhaji Boniface said he also extended electricity to Aboromasi communities in the "Overseas" areas of the constituency and assisted various women groups with grinding machines as a way of alleviating poverty.
He therefore, appealed to the constituents not to listen to the campaign of lies by political opponents to derail the development agenda of the NPP and gave the assurance that a Nana Akufo-Addo government would continue to address the problems of Ghanaians.
