Hohoe, July 24, GNA - Professor Norbert Komla Kofinti, Dean of Students at the Methodist University on Saturday said diversity in political ideology should not be a recipe for conflicts and acrimony. He said this diversity should rather generate the needed social cohesion necessary for growth and development.

Prof Kofinti was speaking at a durbar to honour Mr. John Peter Amewu, the new Hohoe District Chief Executive (DCE) by the Chiefs, Queens, Elders and people of Gbi-Bla at Hohoe, for ascending the high office.

He noted that politics and governance issues were about development and blamed politicians for sometimes sowing discord among their supporters, which had sometimes resulted into unwarranted conflicts. Prof. Kofinti said situations were changing for the better and urged Ghanaians to forge a common front to enable the needed development to thrive.

Togbe Buami VIII, Dufia of Gbi-Bla, the convener, said Mr Amewu had brought honour to the traditional area, hence the ceremony. He entreated the DCE to be steadfast in his new disposition and discharge his authority without fear or favour. Togbe Buami reminded him of the enormous challenges ahead, surmount the problems and bring the desired development that was almost eluding the people, to fruition. Mr Amewu commended the traditional area for their gesture saying it was an attestation that he could perform creditably and their collectively support would enable him to achieve their aspirations. He commended members other political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Conventions Peoples Party (CPP) for their co-operation and hoped that this healthy gesture would be sustained.

"I am first, a DCE for all traditional areas, political parties and all and sundry. My doors and windows are 24 hours opened, with your total co-operation the sky would be the limit", he said. He was presented with assorted items, including a stool and a cloth. 24 July 05
