Political parties are undermining the Public Order Act – Jomoro Police

The Jomoro District Police command has expressed concern over the attitudes of some politicians and political parties whose actions tend to undermine the Public Order Act.

The Public Order Act enjoins an individual or group who intends organizing any special event in public to notify the Police of its intention five days before the date of the event.

Police Superintendent John F. Dzineku, Jomoro District Commander, expressed the concern at the maiden meeting of Jomoro District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee at Half Assini.

He said some political parties in the district often gave the Police very short notices of their activities while others do not.

Superintendent Dzineku said an aspiring party MP from the Central Region who was conducting his campaign among some fisher-folks in the district recently gave the Police less than 24 hours notice to provide him security at Half Assini.

The District Commander said all major political parties in the district have been organizing keep-fit activities across the district on every Sunday but yet none of them had informed the Police of their programme in line of the Public Order Act.

He commended the parties for the orderly manner they have been conducting their activities so far devoid of any breach of the peace in the district.

The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Kwabena Asante, District Electoral Officer and Mr. Francis Boampong, Jomoro District National Commission for Civic Education Director, who tasked the Police Commander to regulate the keep-fit activities of the political parties to maintain peace in the district.

All the major political parties representatives were present expect the National Democratic Congress.
