Political parties not economic ventures - DCE

Busunya (B/A), Oct. 11, GNA - Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, Nkoranza District Chief Executive, has stated that political parties are not credit union or economic enterprises whereby members pool resources and share dividends.

He was speaking at the election of executives of the Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nkoranza North constituency at Busunya.

The DCE expressed concern about the behaviour of some party members who complained about not enjoying credit from the party. "Political parties are voluntary organizations that rely on the contributions and donations of members for its existence and to carry out activities to develop the State", he said. He advised the youth not to be deceived that the Government had allocated huge sums of money to the party and that the leadership were enjoying at their expense.

Mr. Appiah-Awuah urged the people to count on the stability of the nation and the freedom that they were enjoying and to rally behind the government to enable it to implement policies to improve their living standard.

Mr. Kwabena Asante, former District Electoral Officer now on transfer to the Techiman Municipal Electoral Office commended the delegates for exhibiting maturity and called on their counterparts in other areas to emulate them.

With the exception of the Secretary and the Organiser, all the other old executives were returned unopposed.

Mr. Anthony Collins Addae, a retired teacher was elected as Secretary, to replace Mr. Joseph Amo Kwao, also a teacher while Mr. Simon Ameyaw ousted Mr. R. K. Duodu, to become the new Organiser. The executives who were retained were Mr. Yaw Adu Abdulai, Chairman, Mr. Yaw Num, First Vice-Chairman and Mr. Opoku Mensah, Second Vice-Chairman.

Mr. Albert Ohene Djan was returned as Assistant Secretary, Mr. Ruben Osei Poku, Treasurer and Miss Beatrice Acheampong, Women's Organiser. Mr. Kofi Darko, Brong-Ahafo Regional Organiser of the NPP urged the executives to respect the views of the members and to work hard to enable the party to win the 2008 election in the constituency. Mr. Abdulai thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them and gave the assurance that they would serve selflessly to ensure a resounding victory for the NPP.
