Governance lecturer Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah has debunked claims made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, regarding Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was outdoored on Tuesday, July 9, in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, in a colorful ceremony, but his statements about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah have overshadowed the event.
In his speech, while comparing the track records of the Akufo-Addo administration with previous ones, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, asserted that no President in the history of Ghana can be compared to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding Ghana's development.
"Since independence from 1957 till today, we've not had any president who has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah... no president has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo," he stated.
Addressing the matter during the "Kokrokoo" panel discussion on Peace FM, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah, who lectures at Central University, expressed his bewilderment at why Dr. Opoku Prempeh would make such comments about Ghana's hero, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
To him, NAPO's statements were distasteful and detracted from the beauty of his unveiling ceremony.
Dr. Otchere-Ankrah listed some major developmental projects initiated by Nkrumah that remain unprecedented to date, including the Akosombo Dam and the Tema communities.
He further stated that, in his opinion, Ex-President John Kufuor performed better than President Akufo-Addo in terms of the country's development.
"I don't want to stir controversy, but President Kufuor did better than President Akufo-Addo, and you know it," he told host Nana Yaw Kesseh.
