President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday submitted his nomination forms as the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), waiting to be endorsed at the party’s congress scheduled for Kumasi next Thursday.

Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Communication, and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, acting as representative of the President, submitted the forms to Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of NDC, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

President Mahama, who assumed the leadership of the NDC following the death of President John Evans Ata Mills, is the sole candidate for the Kumasi congress. Mr. Asiedu-Nketiah said all other required documents and a cheque of GHc20,000 were also submitted.

According to the General Secretary, he would go through the forms and get back to the nominee.

Mr. Aseidu-Nketiah announced that all was set for the congress, which would be addressed by President Mahama, Vice President Kwesi Amissah- Arthur, and Former President Jerry John Rawlings, who is also Founder of the NDC.

The General Secretary said there would be solidarity messages by sister political parties, adding that the congress would go within time.

“We expect to decide whether the President has been endorsed elected or not endorsed by one pm,” Mr. Asiedur Nketiah said.

According to the General Secretary, there were challenges regarding the venue for the congress, and said a campaign would follow the congress at the Kumasi Jubilee Park.
