President Mills delivers State of the Nation address to Parliament

President John Evans Atta Mills on Thursday read his last State of the Nation Address for his first term in Office to Parliament in Accra.

Highlights of the almost one hour and 15 minutes address to the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana included the economy, education, communication, agriculture, cocoa production, water, energy, corruption, crime, the Judiciary, security and Election 2012.

President Mills on arrival at Parliament House inspected a guard of honour mounted by a contingent from the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces after which he was escorted by the leadership of the House led by traditional dancers into the chamber.

The Majority were dressed in colourful attire while the Minority were cladded in mourning cloth and black suits. At the end of the address the Minority pulled out red cards and showed them to President Mills.

President Mills remarked that he was expected to be heckled in the House but "Not in such a gargantuan manner" before leaving the chamber to sign the visitors' book.

Present in the chamber was Former President Jerry John Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu.
