Techiman (B/A), Nov. 2, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate of National Democratic Congress (NDC), says he would provide transparent and truthful leadership to build a society where equal rights and responsibility of all persons would not be mere rhetoric.
Prof Mills, who was speaking at a rally organised as part of his electioneering campaign at Techiman Zongo Park, said should he win Election 2004 he would work assiduously to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians and advised party supporters not to engage in any confrontation with their opponents but try to tolerate them.
Prof Mills said the NPP Government had totally failed Ghanaians and that only arrogance and mediocrity were sustaining it.
He said the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian had worsened and described the NPP Government as incompetent and corrupt that should not be voted back to power.
He said the philosophy of the NPP government of property owning democracy as well as rule of law was a mirage and cited the harassing of his wife, Mrs Naadu Mills by the National Security Operatives in their house during which they ransacked the place.
He said he would forgive but would not forget.
Prof Mills said the rapid increase in the prices of goods such as fertilizers; kerosene, cement and utility services had led to a marked deterioration in the living standards of the people. Mr A. A. Munufie, Former Ambassador to La Cote d'Ivoire, introduced Mr Alex Kyeremeh and Mr Simons Addai, the Party's Parliamentary Candidates for Techiman North and Techiman South constituencies, respectively.
The NDC Presidential Candidate had earlier paid courtesy calls on Oseadeayo Ameyaw-Akumfi IV, Paramount Chief of Techiman Traditional Area and the Sarinki Zongo of Techiman, Alhaji Yakubu Gibreel.
