The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has urged queen mothers to be vocal about national issues.
She encouraged them to openly support good initiatives and speak out against what is wrong. Prof.
Opoku-Agyemang made this statement during her meeting with the Central Regional Queen Mothers Association in Cape Coast.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed her appreciation for the queen mothers' significant display of support during her acceptance speech at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
She noted that their presence in the audience was a source of encouragement, signaling a bond that requires constant nurturing.
Likening herself to a student, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed eagerness to learn from the wisdom of the queen mothers. She emphasized her awareness of the high expectations placed on her and assured them of her reliance on their guidance and collaboration.
She acknowledged the pivotal role queen mothers play in shaping society and fostering development at the grassroots level, particularly in the fight for gender parity and social justice.
The President of the Queen Mothers’ Association, Nana Adjoa Nkansah Aduam, and her team thanked Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for her visit.
They requested the revival of all beneficial initiatives previously instituted by the NDC government to enable queen mothers to develop their communities. Their primary concerns were educational and health access for women and children.
The queen mothers appealed to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang to ensure their representation on boards addressing gender issues, should she be elected as Vice President.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang thanked the queen mothers for their input and assured them of the NDC’s commitment to empowering them to assist their communities.
She called for their substantial support in the upcoming elections to enable the NDC to return to power and continue meeting their needs.
Furthermore, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the queen mothers to be vocal on issues affecting the nation, so their presence is felt as a formidable force. She encouraged them to openly support good initiatives and to speak out when things are not going well.
As a token of appreciation, she presented the queen mothers with bottles of water, cartons of assorted drinks, snacks, and an undisclosed sum of money to aid their organizational work.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was accompanied by Madam Faustina Lamptey, Central Regional Women’s Organizer; Madam Theresah Buckman, Cape Coast North Deputy Women’s Organizer; Madam Dzifa Glover, Cape Coast South Deputy Women’s Organizer; Madam Sarah Ampofo, Twifo Etimokwa Women’s Organizer; and Madam Vivian Sefor, KEEA Constituency Women’s Organizer.
In attendance at the meeting were various queen mothers from paramountcies and towns in the Central Region, along with the executives of the Association: Nana Adjoa Nkansah Aduam, President; Nana Benyiwa, Vice-President; Nana Addae Aduaa, Secretary; Nana Otosi Otubea, Financial Secretary; and Nana Bedu, Organizer.
