Projects in Volta last 7 years proof of NPP commitment to

Aflao, Nov 18, GNA - Infrastructure development over the past seven years in the Volta Region is proof of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) commitment to the development of the region, Mr Raymond Okudzeto, a leading Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said at a rally at Aflao.

He said these facilities and the many on the drawing board should cancel the impression among some people in the region that the NPP could not represent the region's interests and should not be trusted. The rally, held on Saturday, launched the campaign of Mr Peterson Midadje, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Ketu South. Mr Okudzeto, the President of the Volta Foundation, a development non-governmental organisation, therefore, urged people of the region to vote to retain the party in power.

He said a harbour would be constructed at Keta, the Akatsi/Aflao stretch of the Accra/Aflao highway and the Havedzi/Denu road in addition to opening of more job opportunities for the youth in the region are proof of the NPP government's commitment to the region. There was heavy police presence at the rally to stop any attempt by a section of NPP supporters to disrupt the function. There was wrangling over the candidature of Mr Midadje over his alleged holding of dual citizenship but the national executives of the party rejected calls for his disqualification. Mr Midadje said he would ensure a second cycle school was established in the Aflao area and appealed to the people to vote for him and the NPP presidential candidate. Mrs Agnes Okudzeto, First National Vice-Chairperson of the NPP, said the issue of women and the youth would feature prominently under the next NPP government.

Dr Earnest Kwarku, a member of the party, said it was high time tribal sentiments were minimized or eliminated from party politics in Ghana to unite the country for speedy development. He said the perception that the NPP was an Akan party and the NDC pro-Ewe was not good for the country. Mr Justice Cudjoe, Ketu-South District Chief Executive,) told the people to retain the NPP in power to ensure a sustained free movement of goods and services in the sub-region that improved due to the normalization of relations between Ghana and its immediate neighbours by the NPP government.
