Accra, June 21, GNA. - Political parties have been called upon to co-operate with the government to ensure peace during the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. Mr. John K. Brimpong, the 2005 Obuasi Municipal best farmer said this would create a congenial atmosphere for farmers to produce food for home consumption and export. Making the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday, Mr Brimpong said the food crisis in some countries was the result of ethnic conflicts and wars resulting from political upheavals. He said many Ghanaians cannot afford to flee from wars for economic reasons and even brutalities meted out to refugees particularly in South Africa clearly shows that immigration is no more attractive.

Mr Brimpong said the threatening global warming also poses a great challenge to Ghanaians to gather their loins towards the task of encouraging farmers to produce more against the lean seasons. This, he said, also "should remind us of the need to construct silos" to steam hunger that might be caused by global warming.
