Disqualified presidential nominee for the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Henry Herbert Lartey says former President Jerry John Rawlings ought to be referred to as “Junior Satan” over the latter’s continuous lies being peddled in the Abacha-Rawlings scandal.

Dr. Lartey reiterates that he is overwhelmed by former President Rawlings’ lies and falsehood insisting that the latter’s perceived integrity on corruption issues might be misplaced.

“If he’s lying that I’ve gone to take money from the NDC, which I’ve not done, then he can be lying as well,” Dr. Lartey pointed out, chanting “We want to know” to justify why Rawlings will have to submit to the inquiry by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice over allegations that he (Rawlings) received a $5 million gift from late Nigerian Military leader Sani Abacha.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Dr. Lartey said he’s going all out to pursue the matter because, according to him, it’s about time to get rid of corruption in the country, especially in public offices.

Dr. Lartey maintained “He shouldn’t go scot-free. We want to know whether he’s been lying to us for the past 20 years or not”

In 1998, the late Nigerian president, Sani Abacha was reported to have given Rawlings a gift of $5 million, an allegation the NDC government denied at the time.

Some 18 years on, ex-president Rawlings in an interview with Nigeria’s Guardian newspaper admitted receiving the gift through the aide of the Nigerian leader but said the amount received was $2 million and not $5 million as reported.

The fall out from that interview has sparked some controversy in the country involving the former President with Dr Henry Lartey proceeding to CHRAJ and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to file a complaint against the ex-president.

But ex-president Rawlings who feel slighted by the turn of events and has fingered leading members of the NDC of instigating the issues to smear his integrity.
