Disqualified presidential candidate of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), Dr. Henry Lartey, has alleged ex-President JJ Rawlings sent his friend to persuade him to suspend his decision to get CHRAJ and EOCO to investigate him over the money he received from the late Nigerian leader, General Sani Abacha.

According to him, he declined the request because he had always wanted to ensure that state leaders remain accountable to Ghanaians.

Dr. Lartey, petitioned the EOCO and CHRAJ to investigate the former President who has confessed to receiving $2 million from the former Nigerian head of state.

Mr. Rawlings had maintained a tight-lip on the donation said to be part of Mr. Abacha's loot.

However, during an interview with the Guardian Newspaper in Nigeria recently, ex-President Rawlings admitted that he received the money from Sani Abacha in 1998, but denied that the amount was $5 million as some have alleged.

He has accused the NDC of sponsoring the allegations against him.

“About three days before his drama, I got information that he was going to be financially rewarded for what he did and incidentally he was instigated not by people in the opposition."

But in an interview with Starr News’ Daniel Lartey, Dr. Lartey said he finds Rawlings' claims totally ridiculous.

“He is the one that is always singing probity and accountability and then he came out to say Nkrumahists are corrupt and I started looking into him and asked him to point out who among the Nkrumahist is corrupt," he noted.

"He asked one of his friends to persuade me to drop the case and I asked if he is the champion for probity, transparency and accountability why is he asking me to drop the case if he is a truthful man. If this is how he ruled Ghana some time back then he might have put some people in jail for nothing”.
