Regional chairman and secretary of NPP lose positions

Koforidua, Jan. 7, GNA - The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng and the Regional Secretary, Mr Alecs Agobo, were on Tuesday defeated at the party's regional delegates' conference held in Koforidua.

Mr Amoabeng polled 88 votes to lose his position to Dr Samuel Annor who had 196 votes to become the new Eastern Regional Chairman of the party for the next four years.

The man tipped to win the chairmanship, Mr Kofi Asare Lartey, the former Fanteakwa Constituency Chairman of the party, polled 159 while Mr Kweku Ansah-Asare had 54 votes.

Prince Aboagye got 364 votes to become the new Eastern Regional Secretary of the party while Martin Ameyaw had 92 votes with Mr Agobo getting 52 votes.

Alhaji Umar Abbas Bodinga polled 308 votes to defeat Mr Christian Kofi Tetteh who had 193 votes to become the First Vice-Chairman of the party.

Madam Afua Kyerewa Nyantekyi polled 244 votes to become the second Regional Vice-chairman while Madam Mercy Amu Darko polled 170, Mr Nicholas Addai polled 55 and Mr Adumado Nyarko also polled 29.

Mr Antwi Bosiako polled 367 votes to defeat Mr George Gyasi who got 135 votes to become the Assistant Regional secretary, Mr Seth Okyere polled 315 votes to retain his position as the Regional Organizer while his competitor, Richard Amofa polled 183.

Eric Boakye Darfu won the position of Treasurer unopposed while Mr Frank Annor-Dompreh polled 272 votes to become the new Youth Organizer, beating Mr Yusif Ahmed, who polled 117 and Alhaji Ibrahim Ismailah who polled 108.

The peaceful conference was nearly marred by a string of court injunctions by some members of the party that prevented the election of a Women's Organizer for the party.

Another attempt to use the court to stop the delegates from the Abuakwa North Constituency from voting at the conference did not go through and the delegates exercised their franchise.
