Accra, April 3, GNA - The South East Haatso Residents Association last on Saturday, organized a durbar in honour of Professor Mike Oquaye, the MP for Dome/Kwabenya Constituency and also the substantive Minister of Energy.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Prof. Mike Oquaye told the gathering that the newly created district has been named as Ga East District and has its headquarters at Abokobi.

On the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), he said if every Ghanaian contributes towards the scheme, it may look like "Susu" or would be in a form of savings which would be used to treat anyone who may become sick in future.

He therefore urged all Ghanaians to take scheme seriously and contribute to it.

Prof. Mike Oquaye said he had lived in Haatso since 1981 when the area was not completely developed. But of late he had noticed some residents in Haatso who have built on the road network and on areas provided for gutters and warned those who go round "stealing the land of the community" to desist from the practice.

He also called on the residents of Haatso to quickly form a Development Committee to enhance the development of roads, streetlights, schools, clinic, and drainage system for the Haatso township.

He added that the Development Committee could also help to monitor projects that were being undertaken within the Haatso area and this would bring progress in the area.

Prof. Oquaye appealed to the Gyasehene of Haatso, Nii Tetteh Quao to contact the Chiefs and Elders of Haatso to release land for the construction of a police station which would help prevent armed robbery and other minor crimes in the area. With the rampant robbery in the area, he called on the residents to be more vigilant and identify any strange people in their vicinity and report to the police.

He also appealed to the members of the residents association to voluntarily contribute towards self-help electrification project in the town.

Prof.Oquaye therefore promised to donate double the number of electric poles that may be erected within the Haatso by the residents association.

On security within the Dome/Kwabenya electoral area, the Madina Police District Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Boasiako called on the residents association to form a Watch Committee in their area to help augment the work of the police during night patrols.

DSP Antwi-Boasiako added that he would screen the members of the watch committee to make sure that no miscreants became members. April 03 05
