Resist monetary gifts, NPP supporters urged

Wechiau (U/W), Aug. 17, GNA- Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been advised to be wary of some politicians, who might influence them with money to vote for them.

Mr Ibrahim Abu Tamah, Deputy Upper West Regional Secretary of NPP, gave this advice at Wechiau in the Upper West Region, when Major Edward Yirimambo (rtd) was confirmed as the NPP parliamentary candidate of the newly created Wa West constituency.

He called on members to abide by the Party's manifesto and the constitution so that they would not be used for the selfish ends of some politicians.

The Deputy Secretary said they would restructure the Party to ensure that they won in all the constituencies in the Region. Mr Tamah warned Party members against the use of violence and uncouth utterances since that could undermine the conduct of Election 2004.

Alhaji Abudulai Issahaku, Upper West Regional Chairman of NPP, called for unity among the rank and file of the Party.

"The Party is not the personal property of any individual so we should be working hard to rope in more people rather than scaring others," he said.

Major Yirimambo thanked the Constituency Executives for the trust reposed in him and promised to work hard to provide educational and health facilities when elected.

"I have always been in touch with my people even when I was in Accra as a Public Servant and I believe if I am made the MP I would serve better."

He presented a Mitsubishi pick-up, six motorbikes, 20 bicycles, two mobile phones, a number of T-shirts and posters to the Constituency Electioneering Campaign Team.
