Following the outrage at how Nana Boakye, a student at Christian Service University College, was brutally assaulted by individuals identified as thugs affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has condemned the incident.

The attack occurred during a speech by former President John Dramani Mahama, when Boakye retorted, "Mahama will lose," in response to remarks directed at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

After this incident, Richard Ahiagbah visited Nana Boakye on the morning of Saturday, June 22, 2024, to express his support and has since condemned the attack on the young man.

Speaking on the matter, Ahiagbah highlighted the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that no Ghanaian should suffer such unprovoked and lawless abuse for exercising their right to free speech.

"It is absolutely unacceptable for anyone to be assaulted for merely expressing their opinion.

"Nana Boakye did nothing wrong by disagreeing with former President Mahama. The attempt by the Ashanti NDC to downplay this issue is equally troubling," he said.

Ahiagbah's remarks reflect the broader sentiments within the NPP and among some Ghanaians who are appalled by the incident.

The NPP director of communications further called for immediate action from law enforcement authorities, criticizing the police for their inaction in apprehending the perpetrators.

"It is deeply troubling that the police have not taken action to arrest those responsible for this vicious assault on Nana Boakye. We demand justice for him and a thorough investigation into this matter," he added.

The attack on Nana Boakye has raised serious concerns about political intolerance and the safety of individuals who choose to voice dissenting opinions.

The National Communications Director of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah, is, therefore, urging the government and relevant authorities to ensure the protection of free speech and to hold those responsible for such acts of violence accountable.
