A member of National Council of the NPP, Eugene Antwi, believes having intercessory prayers for a jail prospect, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, was unnecessary.

Also, he said at this point in the hearing of the election petition, the judges should rather focus on the election petition and avoid distractions such as the utterances of people.

The NPP General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as ‘Sir John’ and an NPP communicator Hopeson Adorye are to appear before the Court after they allegedly made disparaging remarks bordering on the election petition in court.

The petition by the NPP is challenging the legitimacy of the declaration of John Mahama as the winner of the 2012 presidential elections by the Electoral Commission.

The member of the National Council said focusing on utterances such as those made by the NPP duo is an avoidable distraction because it has set off reactions from sections of the public and fuels the media.

One of such reactions is an intercessory all-night service inspired by the Ashanti regional NPP, he suggested.

“Certain statements must be left to lie and focus on the main case in hand. To me this is a distraction… and I have been hearing people are going on for vigils and all that… is that what we need?” he queried.
